EDDIC 
 
Extended Dewey Decimal Internet Classification – The classification and indexing system suggested in this report.
Hits 
 
An expression from the search engine world, meaning the resulting finds from a search done by a user.
HTML  
 
HyperText Markup Language - The language that converts raw ASCII text 
into formatted text, hyperlinks, and graphics for display in a World Wide  Web browser. 
HTTP 
 
Hypertext Transfer Protocol - The set of rules for transferring text from a Web server to a browser over the Internet. 
OCLC 
 
On-line Computer Library Center - A nonprofit, membership, library computer service and organization, dedicated to the public purposes of furthering access to the world’s information and reducing information costs. 
Spider  
 
Software for mapping the Internet by following the links on Web pages to all “corners” of the Web. The findings of the spiders are reported back to a search engine’s index. 
URI  
 
Universal Resource Identifier - An adressing system that provides unique identifiers for all resources in a defined universe. 
URL 
 
Uniform Resource Locator - The instance of a URI. All documents on the World Wide Web have a unique URL pointing to them. A document formatted using the HTTP protocol typically has the form:
“http://domain.name:port_number/directory_path/filename.html”
