Modulen GC tilbyr et grensesnitt inn mot Ruby sin mekanisme for søppelhåndtering, som benytter "merk-og-fei" (mark and sweep). Noen av de underliggende metodene er også tilgjengelig via ObjectSpace-modulen, beskrevet på side 430.

Slår av søppelhåndtering og returnerer true dersom den allerede var avslått.

Starter en runde med søppeltømming, med mindre søppelhåndtering har blitt slått av manuelt.
