Munchkin benchmarks, anyone?

Controlling the power distribution in a role playing game is one of the most challenging tasks undertaken by the GameMaster. At some point in virtually every GM's career, they have a campaign in which, despite their best efforts, character power somehow gets overblown, undertaxed, and generally in all ways out of hand. If you have ever been in such a situation and tried to reign things back in, you most likely found it to be a valiant but completely futile gesture. At this point most GMs would rather scrap the campaign altogether rather than tolerate characters running around who were only slightly less powerful than the GameMaster. In order to help you avoid this thoroughly unpleasant experience, listed below are some tell-tale warnings that the power balance in your fantasy game may be just a wee bit out of whack.

If any of the above is true, then it might be that your campaign needs to be audited a bit. Or at least carted off to the loony bin.
