Tarax - A Champions Character

Tarax

Okay, this character is both weirder and more typical in champions at the same time. He's basically a martial artist (although I like the background I chose for him), but he's a great deal more mystical than most martial artists in champions. The ideas for his mystical senses and powers were partially inspired by Nikodemos in Janet Morris' Sanctuary novel, Beyond The Veil, primarily that I played around with the idea of acheiving the same feel. Some of the powers in the multipower were plagiarized from characters mentioned on the net. Constructive criticism would be welcome, since I just put this guy together tonight. For the most part it's easy (hey, what can you do wrong with a martial artist?) but suggestions on how to tighten up the concept or make the powers more point-efficient would help.

Background

Tarax is a member of a supernatural race called the Sidhe. Both the name and the race-concept are from Greg Bear's _The_Infinity_Concerto_ and the sequel, _The_Serpent_Mage_, but the character is not. The sidhe removed themselves from human ken long ago, only recently leaving the capsule dimension that the sidhe Mage created and rejoining the earth. Tarax is a disciple of the sidhe warrior-mystics, trained in their arts and skills, although still "young" in their terms and thus imperfect in his understanding of himself (hence the various psych lims and lack of many skills).

Aside from the typical stats and martial arts skills of a martial artist, Tarax has a strong knowledge of the mysticism of the sidhe warrior- mystics, and basic training in sidhe self-defense (mental defense). He is also familiar with the various mystic realms and forces, enough so to not get lost in his wanderings through reality. His training has heightened his senses and taught him to sense the auras and psychic traces that all beings leave behind in the world, to discern facts about a being and to track it. His training has also given him the supernatural ability to sense danger and react to it before it arrives, although as yet not highly developed (only an 11- roll).

Training in attuning himself to and using the forces within and around him has give Tarax several minor, but on occasion extremely useful powers, including zen archery, mind over body, ki control, sudden bursts of speed, and sustained long distance running. As time goes by Tarax hopes to develop these powers. It is interesting to note that Tarax does not view these powers the same way he views the powers of magi, which are similar in nature but different in form. Tarax feels that his powers work in harmony with the world, as do the powers of the sidhe magi, while other magi, human magi in particular, work against the world, controlling the world and subjugating it. This is the cause of his strong prejudices against human magi.
