Yamatetsu's NanoWare augmentation process uses techniques similar to genetic correction therapies currently employed. The process involves immersing the subject in a controlled liquid environment for a period of nine to twelve weeks. The subject is maintained in a coma-like state and is unable to interact with the outside world in any way. The nanites introduced into the subject's system perform the work of modifying his/her DNA. These modifications cause the subject's cells to form new internal structures, or organelles. These organelles perform several functions for the host subject. Some act to improve cell metabolism to extend life span and reverse the physical effects of aging. Others improve the host organism's resistance to toxins and pathogenic agents. Finally, the subject's over all health and toughness are encouraged to improve beyond the host's racial limitations.
Four levels of augmentation are possible. Levels 1 through 3 multiply the subject's life span by a factor of 2, 4, and 8 respectively. Level 4 stops the aging process altogether. All levels of augmentation reverse the subject's age to the human equivalent of approximately 21 years. Improved metabolic efficiency offsets the added nutritional requirements needed to fuel the subject's augmented systems.
The NanoWare augmentation process improves the subject's ability to resist toxins and pathogens. Each level of enhancement decreases target numbers for resistance tests by one and adds one die to all such tests.
Finally, the process gives the character a limited regeneration ability. Once per hour, the player rolls body dice with a target number of 8 minus the level of augmentation. The character heals one box of damage from his/her physical and mental condition monitors for every two successes rolled.
On the down side, all bioware that the subject acquires after the procedure must be cultured or better, and all cyberware that the user employs must be beta grade or better to prevent rejection by the enhanced immune system. This process is not recommended for the magically active.
