About the contents on this DVD/CD disk. To read the report and evaluation, open the index.html file at the root of this DVD/DC. PUBLISHING THE DVD ON THE WEB ----------------------------- The file structure and the contents on this DVD are structured in such a way that the report will function both on DVD/CD and on the web published as so-called passive web-pages. DVD: The autorun.inf and jam.ico are used for autrun of DVDs/CDs on Windows machines. You need Windows 2000 or above for it to work. On other platforms the file index.html in the root must be opened manually (menu: File | Open file ... | Browse...) - untill the other OSs for some reason decide to support the Windows autorun feature (which they probably never will). The favicon.ico should work on most platforms as long as a reasonably new browser is used to browse the DVD/CD file system. WEB: The root of this DVD/CD has a .htaccess file for configuring an apache server for utf-8 encoded web content. Some browsers will also understand the use of favicon.ico for logo-like display in the browser (in location, tab and bookmarks/favourites) when visiting these pages as served by a web server (as long as html-pages are viewed). To publish the contents on this DVD/CD on the web, just copy all of it's contents to a folder which your web server handles. For example on a Debian system you could typically do if the DVD is located at '/media/dvd' (you must have the required privileges): mkdir /var/www/jam-rapport-og-evaluering cp -r /media/dvd/* /var/www/jam-rapport-og-evaluering cp -r /media/dvd/.* /var/www/jam-rapport-og-evaluering That's it. The web pages use relative URLs so you can put these files anywhere you want in your web folder hierarchy. KNOWN ISSUES / PROBLEMS ----------------------- FONTS ON LINUX: If you don't have the proper fonts installed on your machine, the layout of the report will be wrong and when you try to print the report, some text might disappear beyond the page boundary. To get proper printing or display of the report on Linux/Unix, you should install the true type fonts offered to the world community by Microsoft. In Debian you do that this way: 1) Make sure you have contrib in your '/etc/apt/sources.list', for one or all distributions: deb http://ftp.no.debian.org/debian/ stable main contrib non-free deb http://ftp.no.debian.org/debian/ testing main contrib non-free deb http://ftp.no.debian.org/debian/ unstable main contrib non-free 2) Then run: # aptitude update # aptitude install msttcorefonts 3) If necessary restart font server & firefox/mozilla. FILE FORMATS: Most films on this DVD/CD are MPEG 1 or VCD, which seems to be widely supported on Windows, Linux and MAC. mp4, VOB and mov files were converted with ffmpeg (a unix program). The JAM film and the information film are provided at medium quality. For better quality, contact JAM!. Other films can also be had at better quality. (See contact information at the beginning of the report.) If your media player cannot display the videos, you have to hunt down the codecs yourself and install them on your OS. :-) FURTHER INFORMATION ------------------- This DVD contains Norwegian documentation of the JAM! project.
