Nå har vi krysset grensa fra Gambia til Senegal (ulovlig, men nok om det), og har reist til provinshovedstaden Ziguinchor. Dette er et "case à impluvium", en slags afrikansk variant av borg. Høye, solide vegger rundt, og en tak-konstruksjon hvor alle flater heller ned mot midten, for å fange alt regnvannet som måtte komme.

Maleren må ha gått litt av skaftet, jeg kan ikke skjønne annet.

Now we have crossed the border from Gambia to southern Senegal (illegally, but enough about that), and gone to Ziguinchor, the district capital of Casamance.

This photo was taken inside a "case à impluvium", which is some kind of an African mud fortress. High walls surround a courtyard, and the roof declines inwards, so that all rain that may fall can be collected.

The painter must have been slightly manic, I believe.
