Below you will see the stitches that are used in the hood/kaprun from the Skjoldehamn findings in northern Norway. The colors of the stitches at the right correlates with the various colored lines at the sketch. The hood is basically a square that is folded and closed at the top (including giving it a “mohawk” to make it fit the wearer). The opening for the face are cut from the fold and the edges are folded in and secured with couching. The opening of the front gore are also cut from the fold. The seam allowances are decorated with couching. There is also a simple decorating seam at the neck. Strings are attached by the ears and are tied behind the neck and the bottom edges are decorated with blanket stitches.
